A tribute to Jonny Ruffle
Another year on, and we still feel the absence of Jonny Ruffle, friend and supporter of the band. The second annual Cartwheels and Sunflowers event to raise money for Jonny’s favourite charities takes place on 22 August 2026, Bloxham’s Elephant and Castle.
Jonny produced some of Leatherat’s videos, but more importantly, was a devoted supporter of two very different, but equally inspiring, charities: Let’s Play Project in Banbury, and Live PAWS in Tenerife. He gave his time, skills and heart to manage their marketing, PR and fundraising without expecting anything in return.
Jonny died suddenly from a heart attack in 2024, and since then, these charities have struggled to fill the gap he left. So Jonny’s friends and family have been determined to carry on his work, and to do it in a way that celebrates him, his generosity and his love of life’s little joys, like cartwheels and sunflowers.
The family-friendly local event that’s part celebration, part fundraiser and entirely in Jonny’s spirit. Neon Nights, Get Loose, Leatherat, Doozer McDooze, The Coopers and more will help make it a day to remember.
Jonny loved bringing people together for good — and with your help, his cartwheels will keep rolling and sunflowers will keep smiling.
About the charities
Let’s Play Project, creating fun, safe, and inclusive spaces for young people (aged 5–25) with additional needs in Banbury. From after-school clubs to holiday activities, they make sure every young person can belong, play and thrive.
Live PAWS, a no-kill, volunteer-led dog rescue in Tenerife, which saves and rehomes dogs abandoned or left homeless, with the help of devoted foster carers and vets. Jonny’s family live in Tenerife and volunteer with Live PAWS, making this charity especially close to their hearts.
